Subject[Csnd] call for 8-channel pieces

hello fellow csounders,

with a great effort we finally managed some time ago to set up a very
modest 8-channel system down here in montevideo. nothing comparable to the
high quality systems with hundreds of channels you've been talking about
on the list lately. but at least we've been able to organize some
octophonic concerts.

a few days ago i received a last minute confirmation of the availability
of the venue where i was planning our next concert. the date assigned is
september 9th. i can still include one more piece (or perhaps two, if they
are short) in the program.

those of you with an 8-channel piece that would like to be performed here
in montevideo, please let me know.

the 8 channels will be arranged at 45º in a circle not too wide (some 10
meters in diameter)[1]. i'm afraid i can't accommodate different settings.

please contact me off-list if you're interested, and send me details of
your piece: duration and where can i listen to a stereo demo. csound-only
pieces we could compile ourselves are specially welcome!

best,

lj

a *very* important caveat i forgot to mention in my previous mail: the
concert is free admission and won't generate any revenues, so i'm afraid we
can't pay any fees or performing rights or anything. please bear that in
mind if you decide to propose a piece.

thank you,

lj

Hi Luis,

It is great that you are able to do this.

Might I ask, what do you mean by "short" works?

Thanks,

Michael

:-)

well, in this context i'd say that short would be less than 10 minutes.
"long" would be around 20 minutes.

here is the whole scale, give or take a couple of minutes and rounding to
every 5 minutes:

short-short: less than 5 minutes
short: less than 10
not long: between 10 and 15
not too long: between 15 and 20
long: more than 20
after that we have more categories including very long, extremely long, a
real bore, insufferable, ridiculously long, and others.

best,

lj

Haha!! Well now that is clear... :)

I do have an 8 channel work that is 7:45 in length. The title is "Voices
>From Another Dimension". You can hear a stereo mp3 version of it here:

Let me know if you feel it suits your needs and we can find a way to get
the sound files to you.

Good Luck!!

Michael
