[Csnd] Belated congrats on Csound6

Subject[Csnd] Belated congrats on Csound6

I want to give a nod to the developers for what looks like the biggest quantum leap in quality for Csound, ever.

Also, I do want to point out that the downloads link on csounds.com is still pointing to version 5....the only people who will figure out how to get version 6 pre-built binaries are those who have some sense of the folder layout on sourceforge. It's probably something that should change soon.

Thanks again.

On a related note, and I believe one that has been discussed before, the csound canonical manual build instructions, which are the ones pointed to in the csound 6 repository INSTALL text file, refer to Csound5 as well, using scons. So does the floss manual.

The sourceforge Csound6 wiki page refer to using cmake on Csound6 sources, but does not contain info how to enable or disable different build options, such as the ones used in the scons Csound5 build instructions in the canonical manual.

I have done some trial and error to get as many opcodes building on Ubuntu 12.04 as possible, but I have a hard time figuring out what the dependencies are (wiiuse_h? p5glove_h? Faust libraries? llvm-config.cmake?).

Best regards,
Anders

hi anders -

the floss manual is more a textbook than an up-to-date compagnion to the
most recent developments. see
http://en.flossmanuals.net/csound/on-this-release for the last release
date. we are indeed planning a "small" release for end of september, to
cover at least the most important features of csound6. thanks for your
hint about the building instructions.

as to the csound wiki, i am wondering why you don't add your
informations to it?!? that's what it is for! if you don't have write
access, ask steven or john for it, and you will certainly get.

it is great that steven started this wiki. if we can share our building
experiences / instructions in it, we will have what we all like to have.

all best -

	joachim
