My piece was selected for the "listening room". I am a little disappointed!

Never sent a paper.

Yes, I have had a paper rejected, two pieces rejected, and a paper and piece rejected. I have also had three papers accepted and a piece accepted.

On the most obvious level, the organizers of a conference have to keep the attendees happy but may have limited resources. On the most basic level, I think the obvious crap would have to go, I mean truly incompetent or unlistenable, then as many submissions as time and space permit would be scheduled.

I think the ratio of submissions to resources could vary quite a bit depending on the excitement or lack thereof in the field, the level of funding in the field, the attractiveness of the host city, the competence or otherwise of the organizers, etc.

But in some fields, I know, they are much more selective because the field itself is very competitive and, perhaps, faddish. My vague and only very partly informed impression is that computer music, as a field, is similar to other academic fields but not nearly as high-temperature as theoretical computer science or physics.

Regards,
Mike

There were certainly lots of rejections this year, as they had 187
papers, out of which about 60 got selected (1/3). The ICMC is possibly
the most competitive
of these types of conferences.

No, what I am saying is that if you don't register before the 11/May,
they will not keep your paper. I'm sure anyone else can register
anytime.

If you are giving a paper you need to confirm your attendance by the
25th of April and register before the 11th of May. Keep in mind that
they haven't even said how much registration will be yet.

and for music, two accepted in 1996, and about 10 rejected since. I had
wondered about prosucing a CD called "Rejected", each labelled with eICMC
year. I have thought for some time there is a "style" that ICMC likes and
that is not what I write. I thought my piece for this year's submission
was particularly good, but then I am an amateur and know nothing about
composition.
