I'm interested in attending graduate school in the field of computer music (ie. intersection of technology and music). My background is a B.S. and many years of programming, plus some computer music as a hobby, as well as traditional composition. I have used CSound for a long time. I spoke with someone at UCSD and they said that my background would be strong for their program. I'm wondering what other schools in the U.S. would be looking for someone like me; that is, strong technical background, with some hobby experience in computer music and music composition. I could easily write a short paper on my music pursuits to supplement my technical resume. -D |

I think the answer to your question will depend very much on why you want to go to school. What do you hope to be doing when you leave school? Teach? Compose? Write music software? Do research in music theory/electroacoustic theory etc.? Some mixture? What kind of music/composers/programmers have influenced you or do you hope to study with? In the end it all boils down to the teachers, but you have find out who you really want to learn from who also really has something to teach you. This is not necessarily obvious.
