My copy just showed up. Thanks to all of the contributors here on the list. I've been looking forward to this book for months! Best, Jake |

It really is excellent! Congrats to all (especially Dr. Lazzarini and Dr. B). I also believe Amazon is still selling it at the preorder price (~$40) if you haven't gotten your hands on it yet. Considering its roughly 3000 pages (including the DVD chapters) that's an amazing price (and not to start us down the fun recent book discussion path - but it is hardbound, the dvd is attached to the back cover, and there are no chapters dedicated to Bt).
Best, Colman

mine showed up last week tuesday. working through the realtime stuff. a nice textbook. pedogogical. love to build a class around this book. anyone doing that? not many universities can span comp sci and music the way this book does. kelly On Fri, 12 Nov 2010, Colman O'Reilly wrote: > It really is excellent! We have a module on our MA/MSc in Music Technology titled "Programming for Audio applications" which covers some of the topics presented in the book. There is simply too much to cover in a few semesters. I think a better idea would be to develop a whole degree around it!! On 17 November 2010 17:37, kelly hirai |

I'm most likely going to dive into Csound opcode development at The Csound Blog based on the knowledge in this book, along with another Computer Music side project of mine. Perhaps we could start a group at noisepages where we can all work concurrently, sharing what we learn, and to ask/answer questions we have, etc. Jake -- The Csound Blog - http://csoundblog.com/ Slipmat - http://slipmat.noisepages.com/ On Wed, Nov 17, 2010 at 9:37 AM, kelly hirai |

Sounds good Jacob although I'm not sure if starting a group you on noisepages is necessary. You couldn't find a better group than this one for sharing ideas and seeking advice from expert programmers? If I'm not mistaken pretty much everyone who contributed to the book is already on this list? On 18 November 2010 16:47, Jacob Joaquin |

I've also just received my copy of the book and I think it looks like it will be a great read. I've been working my way through Dave Mark's book "Learn C on a Mac" so I've been holding off cracking open the new text until I've finished it. (I know I'll probably never go back to reviewing string handling once I get into the world of audio). I'd be very excited to learn opcode development and be a part of a discussion group so do keep us posted if you start a noisepages group. I think there is something to be said for a forum context, as posts would be less fleeting in time, giving more opportunity for discussion, but I think those who could give the best answers definitely seem to be here on this list. -Aidan On Thu, Nov 18, 2010 at 11:54 AM, Rory Walsh |

Rory, I couldn't agree with you more. This list is where it's at. However, the scope does go beyond Csound, and it's a lot harder to convince new people to join mailing lists in this day and age. So I'm trying to cast a wider net. Noisepages is really starting to take off, and there are already groups set up for PD, DSP, Csound, etc... And this book applies to all of these things. That said, you better believe I'll be pushing the mailing list for just the reasons you mentioned. -Jake On Thu, Nov 18, 2010 at 8:54 AM, Rory Walsh |

Yeah my copy just came in and I haven't been able to pick it up yet, but I'm looking forward to it. I want to create audio software for android that has to rely on java native methods because the android java is too slow for dsp applications. On Thu, Nov 18, 2010 at 10:00 AM, matt ingalls |

The group is open: The Audio Programming Book Group @ Noisepages http://noisepages.com/groups/the-audio-programming-book/ I'll also create a repository next week so we have a place to share our work online with others. -Jake On Thu, Nov 18, 2010 at 9:18 AM, Aidan Collins |

Berklee certainly does. Taken from the registration manual: Programming Audio Applications and Plugins in C, C++, and Objective-C
A class in C programming with projects tailored specifically to the progressive electronic musician. Working initially from the Terminal application, using the GNU Compiler Collection on Mac OS X, and later with Apple's XCODE Integrated Developer Environment (IDE), the student will write musical programs and audio units that do algorithmic composition, software synthesis, and signal processing. This software engineering class is the first step toward the design of one's own custom synthesis and signal processing tools; and as such, will provide both a marketable technical skill as well as satisfying a highly regarded and often required prerequisite for graduate programs in computer music and music technology.
Taught by Dr. B :)

I'm beginning to ramp up the The Audio Programming Group at Noisepages, starting with posting some C code to the forums in order to help prime the pump, so to speak. http://noisepages.com/groups/the-audio-programming-book/forum/ I finished the second chapter this morning and now have a much better grasp on both C programming and composing audio processes.
