Hello, I played yesterday with my ensemble U: a concert in a festival dedicated to futurism. I created a sound game, where noises of spoken text were extracted and used for live improvisation. The strarting point was idea that the poetry played central role in futurism. Next to that, Luigi Russolo's intonarumori and manifest Art of Noise - the musical language should be extended to the field of different noises and instruments created for it to control it. And thirdly - the futuristic admiration to machines and techinque. The piece uses texts by Vladimir Majakovski and Philippo Marinetti. Slowly the consonants (noises) of the wonderful openining text by Majakovski ("ШУМИКИ, ШУМЫ И ШУМИЩИ" - little noises, noises and large noises) gets crossphaded by the consonants of the same text. The consonants of the silently ongoing texts (and in some part, vowels) are stored into a buffer (a pvs ring buffer, overwritten again and again ) that can be played back using smartphones. I used a XY pad + 4 toggle buttons of TouchOSC as the controller. The posistion of the XY point was converted into angle in relation to the central point of the screen and that controlled the timeponter of reaing from the poiner. The buttons toggled different combinations of PVS filters. The rotational movement on the pad was meant to imitate the rotoring of the intonarumori, but of course, you can do much more. I attach the csd. Sorry, the comments are in estonian (for myself) and code a bit messy, but if you have any questions, please let me know! The recording is up on: http://tarmo.uuu.ee/varia/failid/cs/rumori_di_testo.11.01.13.mp3 (about first 1,5 minutes is just plain text, the heavily distorted noise was intentional - it happened incidentally in one rehearsal and one player insisted to keep it as effect). To be honest, i find the music of the text by Majakovski much more beautiful than the following improvisation, but it was fun anyway. The performance was done yesterday 11.01.13 in Pärnu (Estonia), by ensemble U: (uuu.ee), six players. The piece is dedicated to Victor Lazzarini, creator of the PVS opcodes. Thanks to Francesco and Ben Hackbarth for good suggestions during preparing the csd. greetings, tarmo |

Thank you very much for the dedication. It's a undeserved honour. right, if you want to try out the csd, I uploaded bu1.pvx (to play the consonants form statiuc file) and the wav file with the poetry to http://tarmo.uuu.ee/varia/failid/cs/ Put them to the same directory weher you csd is. if you want to get faster result, change the aamp envelopes in instrument record (it you don't want to wait for 1.5 minutes before anything happens). It is best to run in CsoundQt. In touchosc I used 3rd screen with xy-pad and 4 toggle buttons, the messages sent are something like /3/xy ff 0.001 0.98 /3/toggle1 f 1.0 etc I have emulated the xy pad as CsQt widget, but not the buttons, so you can't test the filters form there. greetings, tarmo On Saturday 12 January 2013 09:30:07 Marco Oros wrote: > Dňa 12. 1. 2013 9:12 Tarmo Johannes wrote / napísal(a): > > Hello, > > > > I played yesterday with my ensemble U: a concert in a festival dedicated > > to > > futurism. > > > > I created a sound game, where noises of spoken text were extracted and > > used > > for live improvisation. > > > > The strarting point was idea that the poetry played central role in > > futurism. Hi, if I undertstand corrctly - buf1.pvx is stored FFT analyse file (created with pvsfwrite) it is meant mosly for testing (it is used when the checkbix "From disk" is checked ). MajakovskiMarinetti.wav - the spoken poetry used for distracting the consonants from it. No midi. Don't bother too much geting the csd to work. It was meant just for peaking in, if someone is interested, how it is created. Just try to read the code. But there is nothing very interesting - my aim was also to learn to use the pvs opcodes, so form the sound side it is a rather etude and nothing special. best! tarmo On Saturday, January 12, 2013 04:19:22 PM Marco Oros wrote: > But, this file countains midi or realtime audio? > > > Send bugs reports to the Sourceforge bug tracker > https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=81968&atid=564599 > Discussions of bugs and features can be posted here > To unsubscribe, send email sympa@lists.bath.ac.uk with body "unsubscribe > csound" |
