[Csnd] envelopes from real instruments

Subject[Csnd] envelopes from real instruments
Hello all,

I was wondering if it was possible to take a short audio sample of an instrument (in this case, a plucked bass string), and produce an envelope from that that could be applied to something like a filter or amplitude.

Many thanks,

Ralph

You could probably use the sample itslef as a reference amplitude along with the 'balance' opcode....other than that, most instruments that decay in the real world do so in an exponential fashion, so mimicing that with expseg(r) or some similar shape often suffices.

An envelope (overall amplitude profile of a physically resonating object) is lossy of the distinguishing details of the amplitude profiles of individual partials, and it is these that provide much of the perceptual dynamic (liveliness) of a sound.
