Subject[Csnd] Csounds.com Website Down
Hi folks,

it seems that csounds.com is no longer available? Always found some nice articles there, would be a waste! Think it could be great if the articles from there could be archived somewhere else if the website is discontinued.

All the best,

This has popped up on the Discord list too. There are a lot of online links/references to material that was hosted on the csounds.com site, which is no longer available. It would be a shame to lose that material.

Hello Csounders,

I absolutely love the csound.com website.

And yes, there are some things that are not there from my original csounds.com website.

Over the next year, I plan to share some of the historical things again via csounds.com, but I did want to cut down on the confusion and clear out many of the outdated items.  And so...

It is not gone.  And it will return so that the links from many places have a place to go and things to see, read, hear, and download.

I think the best solution for the community is not duplicate csound.com - for instance we need the manual to be only served from there so it can be kept updated and avoiding old information being spread. For example, when we search for an opcode, it should point to the manual in csound.com.

Other complementary material is not a problem, but of course, ideally it should be kept up to date with the times.

hi philipp -

can you give an example about an article you found and read at
csounds.com? you can find a working version of 2024 here:
https://web.archive.org/web/20240326023713/http://www.csounds.com/

we are discussing to integrate some content to the community URL
csound.com, so it would be helpful to hear your case.

Hi everyone, Joachim and thanks for the responses,

Unfortunately I can't name an exact article at the moment, but it helped me a lot in my research on opcodes or techniques. Csounds.com was another great source of inspiration besides the reference and the Floss manual. I often found myself on the site browsing or researching some topics.

Also had contact with steven via discord and he suggested to possibly archive the things on github, it would simply be nice to preserve what was developed there in one form or another.

Best,

Philipp

Hello Philip,

Thank you for your interest and support of all the work that we did back in the day to make csounds.com a useful and inspiring site.  csound.com is amazing now, but some features and content were lost, and I will do my best to bring them back.  I plan to share more about my work with Max Mathews (and Max Mathews' work) and my work with Barry Vercoe (and Barry Vercoe's work).

That would be a nice read! Thanks for the work and for sticking with it even in difficult times, Dr B!

Best,

Philipp
