Hi All, I'd like to announce that I'll be giving a 4-hour workshop entitled "Live Coding with Csound" at this year's International Computer Music Conference[1] in Daegu, South Korea. The conference program and workshop information is not yet online, but the workshop description is as follows: "This workshop will introduce users to live coding techniques and practices using the Csound sound and music computing system. Attendees will work through a series of practice-based exercises to explore live coding with Csound themselves. We will use the presenter’s csound-live-code project to explore various approaches to sound design and real time event generation. We will explore topics such as: metronomes and time; hexadecimal notation for percussion writing; score generation using realtime, callback, and event-time (i.e., temporal recursion) coding approaches; and more. Modern Csound 6 syntax and practices will be used for the workshop. The target audience for this workshop includes those new to live coding and/or language-based systems; those looking to employ live coding as part of their composition workflow; and those seeking to perform music live with code. No prior knowledge of Csound is necessary." The workshop is scheduled for Sunday, August 5th, 14:00-18:00 (2-6pm) at Daegu Art Factory. Workshop attendees should bring laptops to work on exercises. We will use https://live.csound.com for the workshop which only requires a modern web browser to participate. If you have any questions, please feel free to reply here or email me off list. You should perhaps explain which browsers work with your code. I consider the browsers I have on this laptop to be modern but they do not load the live csound Csound mailing list Csound@listserv.heanet.ie https://listserv.heanet.ie/cgi-bin/wa?A0=CSOUND Send bugs reports to https://github.com/csound/csound/issues Discussions of bugs and features can be posted here |

Steven, Have a great workshop. Wish I could be there! Exciting that you are sharing this (in such a musical way) with the larger computer music community. Hope that you will get us a video (or a video of your "dress rehearsal". I've been testing and using live.csound.com with a few desktop browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Edge on Win10) and Android Browsers (Chrome, Firefox). I think the technical requirement is that your browser supports Javascript, WebAssembly, and WebAudio. live.csound.com is using the latest Web Csound release (6.11.0) so if there's something not working on a browser it'd be good to diagnose what's going on. (If you could email me what browser/version/OS you are using that'd be handy.) On Sun, Jun 10, 2018 at 1:07 PM jpff |

Thanks all! Dr. B: I think the ICMC is doing some kind of preservation of events but I don't know if that means they'll be recording the workshops. Regardless, I'm putting together materials and exercises that should hopefully be usable for self-directed study and/or teaching. (At least, that's the plan!) I'm sure some of it will end up as documentation for csound-live-code, while other parts may go into video tutorials or an ebook. I'll certainly share the materials here once the workshop is complete. On Sun, Jun 10, 2018 at 8:28 PM Dr. Richard Boulanger <rboulanger@berklee.edu> wrote: > > Steven, > > Have a great workshop. Thanks I'll see if my Debian VM still works and will see about testing FF there. (FYI: Chrome OS should also work.) On Mon, Jun 11, 2018, 15:32 John ff <jpff@codemist.co.uk> wrote:
