A recital for Piano and Csound

Hi csounders,
I would share my next recital ‘Piani e forti variamente temperati’ (I attempt to translate ‘various tempered piano and forte’), a collection of microtonal pieces for acoustic piano and realtime Csound. I will perform the op.48 of Ivan Wyschnegradsky, on thirds of a tone, the op.44/1 on sixth of tone and op.44/2 for twelfths of tone;  Wyschnegradsky wrote these pieces for custom pianos made by Julian Carrillo; I program some Csound piano sampler controlled by a masterkeyboard. The op.48 was premiered by Georg Friedrich Haas with a similar synth version of pianos by Carrillo; 44/1 by me on 29/9/23 in Palermo in a similar recital. the concert ends with the ‘Homage à Ligeti by Haas itself, for 2 pianos a quarter tone detuned apart, the keyboards being approached with an angle of 90° and performed by a single pianist.
More complex my piece ‘Qui Fibonacci, ovunque’, for soloist at piano and realtime quadraphonic Csound, driven by a Midi keyboard set over the piano keyboard, as a second manual in a organ. The piece is based on generalized Fibonacci sequences applied to variable equal temperaments, that are in golden ratio. Perhaps you already known the equal divisione of the octave on 5,7,12,19,31 degrees: well, this is indeed a Fibonacci-like sequence, in which each term equal the sum of the two preceding ones. The ratio converge to golden ratio 1,618... (real number), you can enter any pairs of number in the synth (in form of Midi note number).  The acoustic piano is normally tuned, whereas the Csound instruments, changed by Midi program changes, create various matches between 12Et and the previous temperaments. The principal synthesis techniques are: Karplus-strong and Additive synthesis (and which partials are better sounding when I pass to Natural Intonation? Of course, the Fibonacci partials: 1,2,3,5,8,13,21,34…). I attach a stereo demo with 3 of the 38 instruments I employ (not to count subinstruments):

No other software than Csound can play in realtime a so complex score! Ca. 38’ of various sonorities surrounding the piano and listener...

I search more physical model of piano (not prepiano), I emulate the 3 strings of piano with 3 layers of Karplus-strong, but an open source waveguide model were far better (commercial software Modartt piano is so wonderful!)
Here more details (in italian):
and a link to the audio (studio remix) :
and a nice review of the premiere in Palermo: Piani e forti variamente temperati – Il Corriere Musicale.html

Hi!

This sounds a truly interesting project! And your dedication is impressive!
I am curious to study the code later.
Much success wit the concert!

Hi Giovanni,
thanks for sharing your piece. I'm still listening to it now. I very much
enjoy the interaction between the piasno and Csound. The almost echoing
phrases using the waveguides as well as the additive processing. Really nice
interlocking of MIDI and synthesis.

I do have a piano model, which is far from perfect, but which has gotten more
and more piano-like over time. If you're interested, I'd be happy to share it.
It's a MIDI enable instrument. More than one instrument really, including the
body resonance.

Best wishes,

Jeanette
