I use midge (http://www.dmriley.demon.co.uk/code/midge/) and it works
quite well for me. Tried lilypond a long time ago and it worked all
right too, though the syntax was perhaps a little less intuitive...

Incidentally, would there be a solution in the opposite direction:
converting a MIDI file, or even some "text" notation to csound score?
