One of my first exposures to composition, and definitely my first exposure to sequencers, was through a video game. Mario Paint for the Super nintendo was a game that let you draw and write music. Mario controlled the tempo in the sequencer and ran underneath the notes bumping them to play them. The little mushrooms made a bassy sound and the turtles sounded kind of like a marimba. Vertically it was just like a music staff, so the metaphor was pretty direct. It got me excited about composing in a way that my piano lessons didn't, so I think this is a really great idea. thanks for the link Steven!
