This is surprising given that most of the changes (other than some parser
improvements and optimizations in specific opcodes) in the new version
actually make the code slightly slower while allowing for multiple instances,
more control over score playback etc. Of course, the difference can be in part
the result of using a newer C compiler or different flags.
