I've been using -+rtaudio=alsa -o -dac:hw:0,0 and getting that error.

Yes, this seems to be the problem. I had no problems with Toot 10
(nchnls = 2). Aplay has no problem playing a mono wav file. Working in
stereo is a pretty acceptable work-around.
