on the topic of midi files,
if there are people reading this thread who have used them often,
do you ever have problems with the tempo? I've used max/msp to convert
a simple midi file into the Csound friendly type 0 format, and it plays
as I would expect through the Quicktime synth, but when I run my Csound
file it plays at a fraction of the tempo.
my orc is pretty stupidly processor heavy, and I suspect that is most
of the problem, but I thought I might fish a little to see if others
have had similar problems.

You need to use the -F command line option with the file name.
