Never mind about the "using blocking interface". I believe that's a message from portaudio (haven't looked into that for years -- I totally forgot about it.) Still, I wonder why rtaudio sometimes works and sometimes does not. I did find that sometimes some Firefox plugin blocks alsa (I imagine mplayer or flash). When I close Firefox, sometimes that'll allow rtaudio to work. Sometimes it doesn't (probably depends on what state I left it in.)
