I use a 256 samples buffer and realtime support with jack as default for most linux audio applications and i have no problem. I can even run more than 4 - 5 applications like linux sampler, seq24, hydrogen and ardour at the same time without having any problems. Also my kernel has realtime support and my audio group has a high CPU priority. I have this problem with csound especially when moving my mouse pointer and any items on the screen. The sound output cancels while having xruns. Thanx.
