I'd recommend using the binary installer before going any further. http://csound.sourceforge.net/#Linux While I wouldn't recommend building the code yourself, it worked for me. I've never got the Csound5 Linux installer to work properly for me, but I might just be doing something unusual. I had to change the installer's default paths and probably got wrong! So I compiled it from source and installed it on my Ubuntu 7.10 machine. This probably won't be so easy for a Linux beginner, but the build instructions are easy to follow and should work for you. I had to install a few library development packages to get all the features I wanted. These instructions were very helpful for me: http://cabel.sourceforge.net/install.html There's a dead link on the above page for the main build instructions but this link works: http://www.csounds.com/manual/html/BuildingCsound.html -- Martin Rodgers http://www.wildcard.demon.co.uk
