As Tim said, Mike and Steven have a wealth of knowledge to share, and
you might do some quick searches in the mailing list archives if you
like.
Besides the Python Csound API Tim mentioned, check out the Python
Opcodes section of the Csound manual; obviously these are for the
orchestra, but could call score events from within the orchestra.
I don't know what factors would influence the decision, but another
very simple option for score, which would work with any programming
language (imagine brainf*ck->Csound), is the -L or --score-in flag:
CommandFlags.html#IndexMinusUpperL
in the html Csound docs.
