Debian testing 64, Csound5.07.0.tar.gz, scons engine
v0.97.0d20070918.r2446(from Debian repository).

scons -h gives me:

*** Failed to compile a simple test program. The compiler is
*** possibly not set up correctly, or is used with invalid flags.
*** Check config.log to find out more about the error.

config.log is attached.  I tried this with the previous CVS version I
downloaded and compiled before, and I get the same response in its folder;
it worked before when I compiled, but now it says the same thing.  Did I
necessarily update to a crazy version of scons, or might it be something
else?
