MEDIA AiR is a residency program dedicated for media artists. The program
provides possibilities for artists to develop diverse media art projects.
Each residency is realised in collaboration with a local organisation with
expertise in certain areas of media art. The organisations provide the
technical facilities for the artist and help the artist¹s work with their
local contacts and know-how.

The deadline for applications for Media AiR 2004 is 30 September 2003!

Who can apply:

Artists from Nordic countries, Estonia, Latvia and North-West Russia can
apply to all residency locations. Artists from UK, Canada and Hungary (the
residency exchange countries from outside the Nordic-Baltic region) can
apply to only dedicated locations:

Artists from the UK can apply to Helsinki (Sibelius Academy / Piknik
Frequency).
Artists from Canada can apply to Stockholm (Splintermind).
Artists from Hungary can apply to Bergen (BEK).

Residencies in the Nordic-Baltic region:

Estonia: Tallinn - E-Media Centre+ Artists' Union
Finland: Helsinki - Sibelius Academy CM&T / Piknik Frequency + NIFCA
Latvia: Riga - RIXC + Artists' Union
Norway: Bergen - BEK + Hordaland Kunstsenter
Sweden: Stockholm - Splintermind + Studio House Malongen
Russia: St. Petersburg - PRO ARTE Institute

Residency exchange countries:

Canada: Montreal - SAT
United Kingdom: Huddersfield - The Media Centre
Hungary: Budapest ­ C½

All the residencies include:

- Free accommodation
- Studio or access to work space
- A monthly grant of 840 EURO
- Various opportunities for getting involved in local activities

NOTICE! The artists are responsible for covering their travel expenses.
Artists from the Nordic and Baltic region, under the age of 34, can apply
for Sleipnir travel grants from NIFCA.

How to apply:

A full application consists of:

- A completed and signed application form
- A CV with sufficient information about education and artistic activity
- Project plans/short descriptions of current/future projects
- A motivation statement for the residency
- Documentation of work in digital format (web address or CD-rom)

NOTICE! The application form needs to be sent to Nifca via e-mail and mail.
The applications and material which are received via mail will be available
for the jury. The applications and material received via e-mail will be sent
to the hosting organisations. The final selection is done in collaboration
between the jury and the hosting organisation. You can include your CV and
other documents of small file size (less than 2 MB) to your application
e-mail. 

The aim of the selection process is to make a good match between the
applicant and the hosting organisation ­ therefore one should examine
carefully what the organisations can offer before deciding where to apply.
The project plans are necessary in order to give an idea of what the artist
is currently working on, but there is no need to make any commitments for
finishing a certain piece of work during the residency.

The duration of the residencies is generally 1-3 months, in most cases the
time and duration will be decided by the artist and the hosting organisation
after the selections have been made. If a residency artist wants to bring
along family members, the artist needs to make a separate agreement about
this with the hosting organisations.


Selection process: 

An international jury will make the preliminary selections in October 2004.
The final selections will be made by the local residency organisations and
the results will be announced 5 November 2003.
