[Csound-dev] sourceforge withdrawal

Subject[Csound-dev] sourceforge withdrawal
We have now successfully moved the mailing lists to a safe hosting service based on heanet.ie
(the Irish Higher Education Authority network), which will keep us on a steady position from now on.

Now we need to discuss how to do the releases. This is too late for 6.06 which is already staged
on SF. Not a bad thing, it gives us time to weigh up our options.

From my perspective we need:

1 - A clean directory/package structure
2 - Easy access for uploads
3 - Space for archived/old releases
4 - Mirroring around the world if possible

Any ideas/suggestions?

best regards

I think that 1, 2, and 3 are covered by Github's releases section. I don't know about mirroring.

I like the idea of giving Github's releases a try. I was thinking:

1. Keep the release at SF for 6.06
2. Make a separate 6.06 release on Github, and ask users to review and
ask for feedback. If it works, awesome, let's just use Github and
simplify our lives.

I was reading the documentation and it seems to imply that the source release gets done automatically, to which we can adf binaries. That should work.

Not sure how we would add old versions, but maybe we should just store those statically somewhere else. We will need
to do something because once we're done
with SF we should kill the project there
to avoid misuse.

Hi all, Bintray [1] is another good option for distribution. They are free for open source, fast and globally distributed. Just my $0.02.

I think we need a manual release. I suppose we can keep the release
branch open until Michael finishes the Windows release, or go ahead
and finish it so that 6.06 gets tagged and a source release is
automatically generated on Github.
