In what sense is 8.6 megabytes a lot these days? Do you have a dial-up
connection or a 20 gigabyte hard disk?

I have no objection to somebody moving it, though.

Mike

Hi Mike,

Of course you are right, that 8.6 megabytes isn't a lot in the scope of
things these days. However what I meant in my original post was that
8.6 megabytes as a ratio to the 20.9 megabytes that currently make up
the entire Csound source tree can be considered a lot, by volume.

This is definitely not to downplay the importance of the tutorial
though! I, for one appreciate the effort that went into its creation
and hope that other end users feel the same way. In fact, if it were
moved to its own dedicated CVS module, I would like to integrate Mac OS
9 and X support and documentation.

The reason I advocate moving the tutorial folder to its own Csound CVS
module is precisely because of the usefulness it provides. I can only
see this vital resource improving and it really needs more room to
grow, without having to bog down a general Csound5 source tree
checkout.

The idea is, that people who want only the Csound sources should be
able to get them in the most streamlined way possible. The only reason
I advocate omitting the valuable tutorial from this is so that it
merely streamlines the focus of the 'csound5' module a bit more.

However, my suggestion to move the tutorial to an additional CVS module
does NOT mean it should be omitted from the canonical distribution, I
just think it would speed up downloading the sources, without having to
also retrieve several 500+ kb images.

i agree with david about this. tutorials should be a package.
documentation should be a package.
