I can confirm this behavior on Csound 5.12 from recent cvs.
This works:
Sformat sprintf "\t", iprec
Sformat sprintf "%% %d", iprec
Sformat sprintf "%. ", iprec
Sformat sprintf "%%. ", iprec
Sformat sprintf "%%. %d", iprec
But this doesn't:
Sformat sprintf "%%. %d f", iprec
