In addition, I discovered that the following from the command line:
set opcodedir=
deletes the OPCODEDIR env variable temporarily - i.e., for the current 
session only. (You can't close then reopen the cmd window without having to 
reenter the command.)

However, this might work for students with USB Csound sticks. I'm 
administrator (but the only user) on my XP machine; installing 5.10 for all 
users set OPCODEDIR as a system variable not an administrative variable.

Someone could try to see if students (or others) could make use of such 
temporary changes, to use specific versions of Csound.
