[Cs-dev] socksend on windows (again)

Dear list!

This is primarily directed towards Mr Gogins...

In the draft release notes for 5.15 it was stated socksend and sockrecv would now work on Windows. I suspect I am one of very few actually emplying socksend, and I have mainly been doing so under Linux, but had benevolent help from Mr ffitch who some very clever hacking got a version working on windows as well.

I have a faint memory of having tested some pre-release version that worked, but my need for this working on windows hasn't really become critical until now, and with a fresh install from the pre-built 5.18 installer I get the 'no legal opcode' error message again. I also uninstalled the latest version and tried 5.14, which according to the release notes should work, but had the same issue there. I just wanted to know if the socksend/sockreceive opcodes actually are being built for the windows releases? If they are, what might I be missing if I don't get csound to find them?

I am currently on Win8 64-bit, if it matters.

Best regards,
/Anders

I don't think they are built for Windows, but I'll check when I get home.

mkg@quattro ~
$ csound --version
Csound version 5.18.02 (double samples) Sep 8 2012
unknown long option: '--version'

mkg@quattro ~
$ csound -z2 | grep sock

Sorry, no sock* opcodes on Windows. Maybe next version...

Mike

That would be brilliant, thanks!

I have once tried to follow your instructions in the "How to build on csound" document but failed as I didn't manage to install all dependencies correctly.

I was impressed by Dr B's fundamental walk-through of a Mac-build, and thought maybe something similar could be done for Windows?

I have limited time to do it myself but will try to experiment a bit with it and write up what I find strange or difficult if I can.

Best regards,
/Anders
