[Cs-dev] Time for a new release?

Subject[Cs-dev] Time for a new release?
Hi All,

I'm thinking that Bug 66 was serious enough that we should push out a
new release soon (6.02.0). (That assumes the code change I committed
is correct.) There's been numerous other fixes as well since 6.01.0,
some in particular I'd love to see made available as they fix some
crashing issues with Blue. I'm wondering if we could plan out here
time to do a new release. Some questions:

1. Is anyone in the middle of any work that we should wait on? i.e.
any partial work that is currently in the develop branch.

2. If there's no partial work, could we maybe look at starting the
release branch Tuesday or Wednesday, then do releases this week? (I
seem to remember Michael saying he's traveling on vacation, and I
imagine it's a busy time of year for a number of us. I figured best to
start with a proposed date and we can work out what works from there)

Thanks!
steven

I am not back home until December 19. A good release date would be January 1.

Ah, I'd prefer not to do any Csound release work on New Year's day. I
realized I'm actually out of town from Thursday-Sunday this week, so
that probably wouldn't work so well for me.

What about creating the release branch on the 19th? We could have the
release out by the 23rd and have it done before Christmas.

Okay, sounds like it'll be post Christmas then. I'm not aware of any other ongoing work; I guess we can wait on that for the release. I may put up an unofficial release for the Blue users on OSX until then.

A new release does seem to be called for -- how about Jan 6 -- Epiphany
in western Christian tradition, Christmas Eve in Orthodox/Julian, or just
Twelfth Night? That should give enough time for most to recover from
New Year's Day (Gregorian style).

I need to document some changes, and decide on what to do about URLs.
I think otherwise I am at a local minimum; my next task is a big one.
