Some time ago I mentioned that I would like to include QuteCsound as the "front end" for Csound with the Windows installers. Doing this would require using the LGPL license that now can be used with Qt from version 4.5 on. Would it be possible to change the QuteCsound license to LGPL? This would also involve migrating the QuteCsound code to verson 4.5. I do not know how much trouble that is, but it is not a major change in the version number. Please let me know your thoughts soon so that I can plan for the next release of Csound. I'm mission critical at the moment so I won't be upgrading the Windows builds of QuteCsound to Qt 4.5 until after the 3rd week of July. It *is* a priority for me but I won't risk altering anything on my system until after the show. It's not difficult to build if someone else would like to do it before then, though -- assuming LGPL is ok with Andres, of course. The last build I did was against 4.4.3 so there should be no problem moving to 4.5. AFAIK nothing QuteCsound depends on has changed. -andy.f ----- Original Message ----- From: "michael gogins" <michael.gogins@gmail.com> To: "Developer discussions" <csound-devel@lists.sourceforge.net> Sent: Tuesday, June 30, 2009 8:25:09 PM (GMT-0500) America/New_York Subject: [Cs-dev] QuteCsound Some time ago I mentioned that I would like to include QuteCsound as the "front end" for Csound with the Windows installers. Thanks for the information. If indeed it is OK with Andres, I will go ahead and try building with 4.5 and include the binary in the release. Regards, Mike On 7/1/09, Andy Fillebrown |

Hi, It's OK with me. I've licensed the code as LGPL since the last release. Cheers, Andrés On Wed, Jul 1, 2009 at 10:16 AM, Michael Gogins |

Thanks, I will give that a go. If Qt 4.5 works, I will distribute QuteCsound in the Windows installers in place of the other GUI front ends. As I mentioned before, I will also see if I can get QuteCsound to act as an editor for Python to make it easier to use Python and Csound together. Regards, Mike On 7/1/09, Andres Cabrera |

Hi Michael, Will you keep some other frontends or only QuteCsound? I was only planning to keep QuteCsound. What is your preference? Regards, Mike On 7/2/09, mddemers |

QuteCsound is the new cross-platform standard that is being maintained and improved regularly. It would be my choice, but.... to my surprise - with my blind student Ozgur - his reading software - Jaws - doesn't read from QuteCsound but does read from WinSound - and so.... in his special case, have to have him roll back. Andres is looking into this - hopefully there is some compiler flag he can set to make his next version work correctly with text to speech software. To test this - I think one can download the Jaws program and run a demo of it. -dB On Jul 2, 2009, at 5:03 PM, Michael Gogins wrote: > I was only planning to keep QuteCsound. > > What is your preference? > > Regards, > Mike > > On 7/2/09, mddemers |

Hi, I have no preferences since I mainly use Blue and from time to time QuteCsound... But, I think that it will be a good move to keep a simple frontend like Winsound along a more elaborated one like QuteCsound. My main point would be to keep only the frontends that are maintained and improved and to discard the rest (so to speak). Have a nice day (here in Québec City, the rain has been with us for the past two weeks...)
