Alpha software is tested by developers and not released to users, beta
software is released to some users and tested by them as well.

By that reckoning, Csound 5 is beta.

Of course, you have mentioned plans for Csound 5 that have not appeared in
CVS. 

By that reckoning, Csound 5 is only in the design stage and is not even
alpha, since the planned features can't be tested even by developers.

As far as I'm concerned, it's beta since I use it and only it to compose,
and it is released to users.

If I recall correctly, you also said you only use Csound 5.

What is Csound5Beta?  I was not aware that we had agreed that we had a
beta.  Indeed I have been told explicitly that we do not.  This is
alpha at present.
