Just to set the record straight, the canonical version was functioning before you joined the project, thanks not only to John ffitch, but also to myself, and others. And of course some of what you did do would have been done by others if you had not been doing it. In fact, in many cases you "took over" what others had begun, often improving it, but also sometimes upsetting the original contributor.

I regret your departure from the project, because you have indeed contributed a great deal. In my view, the right thing for you to do now is to agree, along with all other developers including ffitch and myself, not to rework other people's code without permission, to remove your new Csound5 project, and to return to the canonical version.

I do not think it was a mistake for you to contribute to the canonical project. It is better for your contributions, and you are now free to develop your own version, which now also includes many contributions from others, including myself. You have lost nothing by contributing -- indeed, perhaps not personally but certainly from the standpoint of software engineering, you have gained. 

I do think it is unfortunate that there is a fork in Csound development.

As for myself, I plan to remain with the "canonical" project.
