I propose that Csound adopt a reverse engineered VST SDK and
distribute CsoundVST, vst4cs, and possibly Cabbage from SourceForge.

Although I am not a lawyer, I believe that the recent US District
Court decision in Oracle versus Google means that the VST SDK
agreement from Steinberg, insofar as it prohibits reverse engineering,
has no meaning in the USA.

Oracle will appeal the case but is not expected to win.

The judge was extremely clear about the nature of an API (which is
part of what the VST SDK is about and the only part of it that
necessarily concerns Csound): it is a protocol and it cannot, as such,
be copyrighted. Google was OK to re-engineer the entire Java language.
