Subject[Csnd-dev] Csound 7.0
The 7.0 project is now ready, all outstanding issues have been cleared. I guess it is now time to discuss a release schedule.

With the packages we are building we are ready to have a fully automated release - no
need to build packages locally. This is a big development for us.

For MacOS however we'll need a plan to sign the installer, so we comply with Apple requirements for a clean install. We have tested this and got it to work but now we need to figure out how to automate it and deploy.

Automating signing shouldn't be much of an issue, but I think we also need to notarize too so people don't get a warning about malicious software?

Fantastic! In case it is helpful, I'm in the somewhat odd position of having three Macs here at the moment (one intel, M1, M4), so happy to help verify if things worked. Please cc my direct email address if you want me to check something though!

what a wonderful moment to read this message!
it was such an impressive work on this big step, for such a long time,
but very intense in the past months.
really inspiring and encouraging to see ...

I'd like to propose we tentatively target December 1st for a release
(3 weeks from today). I'm juggling a number of things at the moment
but would like to do some stress testing before it goes out, as well
as do some additional work on the Java CsoundFFM library (and update
the Csound API examples for that) for the release. I think there were
also some additional changes to be worked out for the WebAudio build
for setjmp/longjmp and build system that would be good to have for the
release. If any blockers come up in the next few weeks, we could still
extend out a week or two and it'd still be before the Christmas/New
Year holiday time.

Additionally, the module system changes are coming along. With other
things going on, I imagine that'd be ready in the next couple of weeks
but would need a fair amount of testing and experimentation with the
community. Assuming all goes well, I think a January release of that
could work.

I think we're feature complete for 7.0. We had to take a couple of steps back to ensure all the merged code was working but I think we are good now.

I have one task to do with packaging, which is to include the OSC opcodes in the installer for MacOS.

I also noticed the Windows installer is still fetching the old 6.x manual. I think we can remove the manual from the installer and leave it just online now for both Mac and Windows, if all frontend developers agree.

So I think 7.0 could be out early in the New Year.

work now.
