The International Csound Users Group meeting that I hold every first Wednesday of the month has to be postponed because I have an important doctor's appointment a long drive away on Wednesday. The meeting should resume as usual next month (February).

Subject | [Csnd] mini-announcement from CDP: our new release supports PVOCEX |
Hello to all, Happy New Year! Some 20 years after designing it, I have finally got around to adding pvx support to the CDP system - "Release 8" is now on github as a Beta source release (all LGPL). This means that pvx files are no longer confined to Csound. see: https://github.com/ComposersDesktop/CDP8 This is still very much work in progress, so expect changes and random updates - we are still in many cases trying to understand many of Trevor Wishart's new programs (over 80 of them at the last count), so documentation as such will be a while yet. We may exclude some currently listed, and maybe add others even if a bit "experimental". But we hope practised developers will have a go. As fits a beta release, we need testers who can report bugs etc. The full system is now over 220 programs. I have full builds available for PC and Mac, so anyone who really wants to dive in but not build from source can email me offlist to get links. We are still some way off making a full "Release" with install packages and documentation etc. We use MinGW for (32bit) PC builds, and CMake as the build environment on all platforms - all thanks to John Fitch for setting that all up and checking builds on Linux. I have yet to do the same for CDP8, so some of the CMakeLists.txt files may not be quite right yet. I have also posted a small repository just for PVOCEX-related things, which may interest those making more than occasional use of pvx files: see: https://github.com/ComposersDesktop/PVXTOOLS This includes small zips (Mac/PC) of a few programs: the "pvocex2" program I did way back when (can make a stereo analysis file), and a few CDP workhorse utilities such as "dirsf" which will print to the console a list of soundfiles in the current directory, with format information - now including pvx files, so you can see quickly what format any pvx file is in - window size, overlap, duration etc. Of course it handles standard AIFF and WAV files too. "pvocex2" also has a flag option to report format information. Also "pvplay", a (command-line) program to play analysis files, with lots of options; and "specvu", which will print the amp/freq values of a requested analysis frame to a text file. The full program set has other tools for reporting analysis information - rarely just one way of doing things. We also plan to start creating some libraries of CDP processes, minus the considerable (and somewhat obscure) overhead of "Soundloom", Trevor's highly original but-not-always-obvious GUI front-end (but already handles all the new programs). Any programmers interested to join in will be most welcome.
