[Cs-dev] PC-Windows Installer Csound 5.18

Subject[Cs-dev] PC-Windows Installer Csound 5.18
Hi,

I might be wrong, because I'm not using Windows-PC, but I was attending
a class, and a student talked about csound. He did everything in
commandline, later I asked him, why he doesn't use csoundqt-frontend. He
replied that this works to unstable for him. I asked him to open it and
to check preferences, and thereby I saw it was "Csoundqt 0.7 - alpha" he
had installed. He said this came with the lastest csound installer. I
think this is quiete risky to distribute the alpha, or the student might
have installed csoundqt seperatly and didn't tell me right. Could
someone check this for me, please?

Best,
Alex

I maintain the Windows installer, and I have been distributing
CsoundQt 0.7 alpha for several releases now. The reason is that I
personally experienced several problems with both 0.6 and 0.7 alpha,
and I found the problems with 0.7 alpha were fewer.

Mike

The 0.7 alpha is definitely the most stable release on Windows. Don't
be fooled by the "alpha". Everything before 0.7 was more alpha than
the current alpha =)

The only show-stopping instability I was aware of was due to a
resource issue in Csound's FLTK library. AFAIK, it was fixed in 5.18.

Hi Mike and Andy,

thanks for your reply. I was just afraid that this "alpha" might lead users to avoid using it.
I was sure you had decided for some goog reasons packaging it. Anyway Csoundqt 0.7 release is final so I hope this runs fine on PC-Windows?

Best,
Alex

Hi Alex,

I haven't had as much feedback as I would like about the performance
on Windows, but the reports I've had are positive. I would encourage
Windows users to be more vocal, especially if things are not working,
so that problems can be fixed.

Cheers,
Andrés
