Subject[Cs-dev] [OT] How to set sound in a browser
I am hoping that one if you knowledgeably people will be able to help
me.

I have a new Linux laptop (the old has all but expired) for which I
cannot organise sound. There appear to be two sound cards, both using
the same driver. I can get sound from card1 but not card0, and this
is sticky in the sense that if I select the second as default, it
renumber the devices but only card1 works. In audacity and aplay I
can use hw1 and all is OK, but in a browser.... Rater kills
soundcloud and the BBC. How can I select card1 for use?

Tried with Firefox and seamonkey. Tried installing pulseaudio
(despite it messing things up) and jack, but no idea how to configure
them. Never found any need for them before.

OpenSuSE13.2 if it matters, 3.16 kernel.

If I can fix this there is still the question of turning the touchpad
off.....

Just a long shot, if you can run pulseaudio out through jack, then you
would presumably have more control over selection of outpuit device,
and it would remain the same for all applications wanting to use sound
output. I got pulseaudio talking to jack, can't exactly remember the
steps as much of the Linux setup is "keep trying until it works" for
me...

Two useful links

and, regarding pulseaudio,
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshootingProcedure

Good luck

Pulseaudio is quite useful for this. Using the pavucontrol program you
can redirect any program to a different card (as long as pa is using
that card, of course).

So, for pulseaudio:

Install pulse and pavucontrol
Open pavucontrol to make sure pa is using all your cards.
Start your programs, and using pavucontrol you can redirect a specific
application to one card and the rest to another.
