I am still hoping for the next release to be on Monday 22 December,
with a freeze of updates (apart from bug fixes) on the previous
Thursday.   Are all developers OK with this?

Since this is only two weeks away and December is the busiest month of the
year for me, I think I may only be able to make a PowerPC package for OS X
10.5.  I don't think I will have enough time to figure out how to
cross-compile everything for Intel Macs in that time (plus find people to
test it).  But, I see no reason to delay the release on that account.  I
will just make an Intel package when I am able.

Things to do before the release:
    - work out packaging scripts that will be functional on 10.5.  If they
      can be made to work for both Victor and me, then add them to CVS.
    - fix some SConstruct issues that I encountered when compiling 5.09
    - make SDFT code permanent (or at least structure changes)
    - increase API major version and adjust library version in build scripts
    - investigate David's request about max. UDO arguments (not sure that it
      can be done for this release though)
    - investigate allowing a min & max # of pfields to be set via orchestra
    - test that 5.2 framework will not disturb 5.1 framework on OS X
