Subject[Cs-dev] Csound.sf.net - Wordpress
Hi All,

I've setup Wordpress on sourceforge at:

http://csound.sf.net/blog

I did some initial copying of material from the existing page over to
the new site. There's still stuff to transfer over and new things to
add, such as information for developers (including iOS and Android)
amongst other things. I think this will make a better home site for
csound.sf.net than the current page.

Thoughts on the site? Worth pursuing?

BTW: I have set the site to allow new user registration. The default
role for new sign-ups is set to "subscriber". If you would like to
help in modifying the pages, email me with your username and I will
bump you up to "editor" role.

Also to note, SourceForge looks like it is phasing out hosted apps,
meaning MediaWiki will be removed. I am waiting for migration
instructions to be posted and can take care of migrating the wiki into
a self-installed MediaWiki instance.

Thanks!
steven

Looks good to me. I use WordPress on my own Web site and find it the
best of several such thingies I've used over the years... not that I
have used them all!

Mike

SubjectRe: [Cs-dev] Csound.sf.net - Wordpress
Hi,

I think the main issue with any of these systems is being able to
ensure there is a maintainer who can apply patches and maintain
security. That's a lot of work, especially for a moderately well
ranked site like the csound site. Would it be worth considering
hosting in within the Wordpress site itself? It seems to me that would
be safer, or maybe it wouldn't really?

Cheers,
Andrés

SubjectRe: [Cs-dev] Csound.sf.net - Wordpress
Hi Andres,

Wordpress is pretty easy to maintain; when new versions come out, you
can use the dashboard and just press "upgrade" and it does it for you.
Security wise, shouldn't be too many issues I think as new versions
come out regularly for any critical bugs. Note: this is just
csound.sf.net, which I don't think is that well ranked a site compared
to csounds.com. My thought is that we'll have good security until
proven otherwise. (Note: I've had wordpress on my personal site for
many years without much issues).

Thanks!
steven
