Subject[Cs-dev] added Csound Wiki
Hi (John Clements?)

a domestic announcement:
there exists a Csound Wiki (
http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/csound/index.php?title=Main_Page ).
Steven, Andres has written some pages i believe.
Now i've added info about building/installing Csound, CsoundQt and Loris on
Ubuntu there, because those questions keep coming back from time to time. I
had all this information already available in a Csound blog, but people do
not seem to find it, hope this improves now.
Also a link from the Csounds.com has been created: http://csounds.com/docs

Hi Menno,

Thanks. I also agree the wiki is the best place for these things.

Cheers,
Andrés

Hi Menno,

Just to confirm I look forward to providing some more details on
the Ubuntu build sometime soon. The system here is broken now and
a re-install is in order, to a fresh Oneiric 11.10

Presently the,
 Building Csound with Ubuntu
 Building CsoundQT with Ubuntu

sections are quite different, with only a passing reference to
Synaptic in the former, but an apt-get install commandline in
the latter.

As apt-get is a strength of Ubuntu, it is often the 1st area
of focus for us novice builders, Synaptic perhaps the 2nd.

So perhaps there are 3 approaches for the Ubuntu user,
 building entirely from source components
building with source components provided via Synaptic
building with sourc4 components provided via apt-get

As we know, an apt-get install csound will not build but
install an earlier Csound 5.13. And that works well.

Many thanks!, as this is a most promising very good start,
particularly the linking to from Csounds.com

hi menno -

thanks for putting this description on the Csound Wiki. we should
definitely bring the most important install descriptions together and
put it there.
i logged in at sourceforge and wanted to add something to your
description, but got this message:

You do not have permission to edit this page, for the following reason:
The action you have requested is limited to users in one of the groups:
editor, admin.
You can view and copy the source of this page:

what must i do to be able to edit? i think john added me as a developer
some years ago, at least with access to the manual.

best -

	joachim
