Not really a replacement for make, but for autoconf & make;

Note that it is possible to generate a project file for MSVC
with
scons and perhaps in that vein they might add a builder for
XCode too, but I can't see there is a builder for makefiles.
 It would have been nice though.

However, it is not difficult to write a Makefile for a
specific
platform (eg. Linux) based on the SConstruct file by hand.
Just time consuming perhaps. All you need to do is study
that file and know your make syntax.
