  This message is merely a brief report on my experience building and 
running Csound5.

  I retrieved the CVS sources this morning (April 24). I have installed 
the latest SCons, Portaudio 0.19, JACK 0.98, and ALSA 1.0.1. The build 
failed for me until I realized I needed to specifiy useJack=1. Btw, will 
Portaudio 0.18 work or is 0.19 required ?

  Once I resolved the JACK dependency the build proceeded very smoothly. 
After building I ran this test :

    ./csound examples/trapped.csd

after editing that file's CsOptions to include '-o devaudio -m6'. 
Performance was excellent.

  I'll run some more tests and will report any significant successes or 
anomalies as discovered.

  Btw, I agree with the developers re: the use of SCons, it works very 
well for Csound5.
