It's not a question whether it's a lot of work, or a little work. The question is simply important, just as the question of sound quality is important.

I think tests would be very interesting. I would be particularly interested if you had live pieces that stress Csound, and that could be "tuned" to be more or less demanding.

Best,
Mike

If we're talking about a *lot* of extra work, I could run heavy load
tests of both if you'd like.

I do have those and will be happy to test. How would you suggest I
conduct the tests? What kind of tuning do you have in mind?

As to amount faster, I should mention that to me, the difference need be
only in the range of 10% cpu use to be meaningful. Currently, I *need*
to run at ksmp=64 to do my pieces and I do not have as many instruments
or reverbs on there as I would like. So 10% difference is another
reverb, or another channel on the board, and I have a fast machine. So
when I thing that less fortunate souls than me may be doing the same
thing on 1 gig machines instead of 3gigs, then that is even more
meaningful. It could be the difference between 2 synths channels ( not
enough to do a show ) and 3 ( enough to do Hardfloor if you're cunning! )

I will definitely stick with 32 bit for gigs if it is only 10% faster.
Maybe not so for 5% faster.

Iain

Oops, which options do I need to change in SConstruct, just the "build
for 64 bit machine"?

Thanks

No, 64 bit floats are enabled by useDouble=1.
