[Cs-dev] loris licence

Subject[Cs-dev] loris licence
As Victor sys, lorisgen5.[Ch] are licenced under GPL, so while it can
be used wit hcsound I think that we cannot distribute them with the
package. Is that the correct interpretation? Or we could seek a
let-out clause.

I think we can't distribute it, but on Linux, this should not be a
problem using the packaging systems (rpm etc) in distributions.
OSX and Windows may be problematic.

I think that while there is considerable overlap of capabilities with
the PVS opcodes, Loris and the Loris opcodes also do stuff that is
different, or implemented differently, to a degree that they are well
worth having in Csound.

I'm pretty confident the authors of Loris would give Csound a let on
this, please do ask them.

Mike

You definitely can distribute csound, but the problem would be that
the GPL would "contaminate" the rest of csound.. thus making the whole
package GPL instead of LGPL

You are correct, my statement does not hold if the Loris authors give
csound an exception.
