It does not seem to have any action other that to throw an error.
What have i missed?

looks like it is a complement to vco2, to read one of the waveform 
tables employed by vco2 and (if I understand the docs correctly) 
requires vco2init to have been previously called, to create the copious 
number of tables. Never used it, though.
