The 'curse' is not C++, but departing from the main branch. All versions of Csound whether they use C++ or not have faded in favor of the 'canonical' version because that version has more developers -- it's that simple.

Making the CSOUND struct into a true C++ class would be a big win for Csound -- it would make it run faster, make it easier to maintain, and make it easier to understand. If I didn't want to actually compose music, I would do the work myself.

I think that the most important thing for a succesful open source
project is having a community, and that's what the canonical branch has
always had.
