At one time it was clear (to me) that AMD processors were to be
preferred to Intel in part because of the treatment of underflow.
However my department is offering to replace my current machine, but
none of the authorised suppliers provide AMD processors.  I am being
offered something like a quad i7.  Does anyone know if the underflow
issue is still there, or any other information to help me?
