I was thinking of trying out 64 bit gentoo for my amd64, and wanted to 
know if this is likely to cause any issues for csound5, and whether I 
need to compile it differently at all.

I am running csound5 on SuSE 9.2 on Athlon64 and all is OK (I had to
fix portaudio on the way).  You need to set the  Word64=1 to use the
64bitness.

Thanks, will try it out then and report on how it does. I noticed that 
Ardour, Jamin, Ecasound, and of course Jack all are supposed to be 64 
bit happy so I would like to try combining them all on one 64 bit OS.
