Is it expected that the final Csound 5 release will require libsndfile
1.0.13 or will it be possible to use an older version prior to 1.0.12 ??

I have been compiling Csound 5 on MacOS 9 using libsndfile 1.0.5 for the
last year and a half, but the OS 9 code was removed with version 1.0.12.
While the changes are not too great at this point, I would prefer to not
have to mess with the libsndfile code to keep Csound working.  I do not
relish the idea of having to maintain private changes to either Csound or
libsndfile.
