Well, I guess that ASIO now is worth only for Windows (on MacOS X there 
is CoreAudio and ALSA on linux).
Under windows, at present time ASIO is the only way to have a real low 
latency (under 10 ms) and realtime multichanneling, and more than 16-bit 
precision... So I always use ASIO when I do realtime on my machine.
