| The only time I had this problem was when portaudio was trying to
connect to the OSS, /dev/dsp, which is generally the first portaudio
device. That was because I had only half installed alsa, and /dev/dsp
had not been created.
Try to check it you are using an alsa device through portaudio, not OSS.
