At sourceforge, the place for snapshots is the "Files" page and a snapshot
is called a "file release".

While still thinking there is a need for snapshots there is good sense
in moving them out of the src tree.  Would it be a good idea to create
a top-level directory for binary snapshots?  And then remove the
current ones.

Actually, the Sourceforge docs recommend putting TEMPORARY downloads in the
project web space, not in the file release system.  File releases are
permanent.  Snapshots are temporary.

I also would like to see all of the large files (snapshots, soundfonts)
removed from CVS.  Even though I have broadband, the CVS update tends to
fail for me on these large files.  (I don't know why ...)
